YCSO VOLUNTEER SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAMS COME THROUGH TWICE IN A WEEK!

On Jan 28th, a total of eight hikers were reported to be lost in the Devil's Bridge area of the Verde Valley in cold and snowy conditions. The YCSO Verde Search and Rescue (SAR) folks along with Forest Patrol sprang into action, and after a challenging time, were able to successfully locate them and lead them back to safety. Then, 4 days later, a nighttime rescue of a hiker stranded on a cliff!

SCAMMERS TAKE $100,000 FROM FOUR COUNTY RESIDENTS IN BANKING SCAM

YCSO detectives report at least four people in the county were scammed over the final weekend in January, losing at least $100,000 in the process.
Detectives say the scammer called the victims claiming he was from "bank security" and said their accounts had been compromised, needed to be closed, and new ones opened.
If you receive any such call, never transfer money or give out financial info.

APPLICATIONS FOR YC MOUNTED SHERIFF'S POSSE SCHOLARSHIPS NOW AVAILABLE

High School seniors around Yavapai County are urged to submit an application for a $1,000 college scholarship courtesy of the Yavapai County Mounted Sheriff's Posse.
In 2024, the Posse received more than 50 applications and awarded 37 grants to deserving county high school seniors, including the first-ever award to a student from Wickenburg HS.
Deadline to submit applications is April 5, 2025.

DEPUTIES RACE TO SAVE DOG NEAR HUGE CORDES LAKES FIRE

A YCSO deputy on duty in Cordes Lakes the night of January 26th saw smoke nearby and quickly responded to the scene of a large residential fire. He and other deputies who came to the scene made sure the homeowner was safely away from the flames. They were alerted to a dog in a kennel on the back side of the building, and using bolt cutters on a locked gate, were able to reach and rescue the pet.

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS APPROVES UPDATE TO YCSO REACH OUT PROGRAM

The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors has approved a contract for almost $2 million from the AZ Attorney General's Office to be used for a critical update of the hugely successful Reach Out program. Sheriff David Rhodes said the money will allow the recidivism training database information to go to more agencies and improve the program, which has seen recidivism cut from 50% to less than 20%.
