Three veteran members of YCSO were honored August 7th by the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors for 25-30 years of service to the citizens of the county.

Capt Richard Martin, Sgt Brandon Rumpf, and Deputy Oscar Alvarez were recognized for their long-term dedication to the agency. Sheriff David Rhodes told the Supervisors, "We're very grateful for these men. They have been through good times and tough times, and they are part of why we have first-rate public safety in Yavapai County."

Capt Martin started as a part-time detention officer in 1994 and went full-time a few months later. The next year he became a patrol deputy and then in 1999 he was assigned as a Field Training Officer (FTO). He was promoted to Sergeant in 2008, worked with Forest Patrol and SWAT, became a Lieutenant in 2013 and a Captain two years later. He has been Captain of Detention Services at the Camp Verde facility for more than three years.

Sgt Rumpf is a 25-year veteran at YCSO who began as a patrol deputy in the Verde and then spent time with the Narcotics Task Force and the Criminal Investigations Bureau. He returned to patrol duty in the Verde in 2013 and became an FTO and was promoted to Sergeant the same year. Sgt Rumpf has received the YCSO Medal of Valor for his 2023 rescue of an injured citizen in the presence of gunfire. He also received a Sheriff's Letter of Commendation for the single-handed capture of an armed robbery suspect in 2001.

Deputy Alvarez, who has five other family members also employed by YCSO, started in 1999 as a detention officer at the old Prescott jail. He became a Detention Training Officer two years later and became a patrol deputy near the end of 2002. He joined the SWAT team a year later and has also served several years as a training officer in the Northern Arizona Regional Training Academy (NARTA). Deputy Alvarez received a Sheriff's Letter of Commendation in 2011 for his actions during the search and rescue of a young child.
