Yavapai County has been designated as a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), which will bring new resources and enhanced partnership among law enforcement agencies in the ongoing fight against drug activity in the county.

The High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program designation will allow for easier sharing of information between YCSO and other law enforcement agencies, as well as additional resources to fight the trafficking of deadly fentanyl and other drugs in the state that has been exacerbated by the breakdown of immigration enforcement at the border. “With 50% of the fentanyl seized in the United States occurring in Arizona each year, every available resource is crucial to keeping the residents of Yavapai County safe,’” said Yavapai County Sheriff David Rhodes. “It took a few years to get this designation and the additional resources, but now we are ready to expand on our efforts to combat the trafficking and the apprehend the traffickers”.

According to the Federal Office of National Drug Control Policy, $325 million worth of illegal drugs were removed from the market by the Arizona HIDTA in 2023, including the seizure of 36 million fentanyl pills, along with millions of dollars.
