CLOSE CALL AS THE IRONWOOD FIRE BURNED NEAR THE CORDES LAKES COMMUNITY
Published on June 17, 2024
The Ironwood Fire, sparked by a motor home which caught fire on nearby I-17, came perilously close to the community of Cordes Lakes on June 14th, but thankfully never reached the homes in that area. YCSO deputies and firefighters from several agencies worked together through the night and beyond to contain the 230-acre fire to vegetation. No homes were lost and no injuries were reported.
This fire, along with other recent fires near Wickenburg (seven homes destroyed) and Bartlett Lake, where evacuations were necessary, emphasize the need for all Yavapai County residents to sign up for the county's Emergency Notification System (ENS). On June 14, that system notified all registered residents in and near Cordes Lakes that the area was put on "SET" status for possible evacuation, before that information was available to the general public or the media.
To sign up, please go to the homepage of this website (ycsoaz.gov) or our main Facebook page (Yavapai County Sheriff's Office) and look for "alertYAVAPAI-Everbridge" under the "Featured" section. It only takes a few minutes to register, and it could save your life. YCSO also asks you to encourage your family, friends and neighbors to do it too.
Remember, Stage 1 fire restrictions are in effect for all unincorporated areas of Yavapai County until further notice, but wildfires (as the Ironwood Fire proved) can start in ways no one can prevent. Be prepared, be careful, and register for the ENS.
