ANOTHER SNOWSTORM AND MORE ISSUES WITH STRANDED DRIVERS, IGNORED SIGNS

For a second consecutive weekend, YCSO personnel (deputies and Search and Rescue volunteers) responded to a bunch of motorists stranded in the snow and mud on Drake/Perkinsville Roads following another snowstorm that hit the county.

As happened the week before, several drivers ignored "road closed" signs, drove around barricades, and wound up stuck in the dangerous conditions after trying to bypass closures of I-40 between Flagstaff and Ash Fork, and get to Highway 89. FYI, blaming your GPS system for recommending the forbidden route is no excuse.

Once again, YCSO puts a premium on public safety, and strongly urges all drivers to obey the road closure signs. If you don't, you put yourself and others in danger, and you also risk a citation and fine for your actions. We encourage all motorists to keep an emergency supply kit in your vehicle at all times, because you never know when your plans have to change, and you cannot escape the bad weather (or any other emergency situation that arises).
