The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office this week received a generous donation to its Employee Fund from a local group that sponsored a charity golf tournament at Talking Rock Golf Club.

Sips and Cigars, started several years ago by former law enforcement officer Jerry Taylor, sponsored the benefit golf event in September, and donated nearly $17,000 in proceeds to YCSO in a ceremony attended by Jerry's widow, Detta, and several other members of the local group, along with Sheriff David Rhodes and Chief Deputy Jeff Newnum. Jerry and Detta Taylor both served with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office before moving to Talking Rock Ranch, northwest of Prescott. A second donation of proceeds from the 3rd Annual First Responders Golf Tournament was made to the Williamson Valley Fire Department.

More than 100 golfers took part in the tournament, held in memory of Jerry Taylor, who served more than two decades with the Sheriff's Office in L.A. County before retiring to the Prescott area.

The YCSO Employee Fund, which is financed completely by donations from the public, helps agency employees and their families in times of need. If you would like to make a donation to YCSO, you may go to ycsoaz.gov, and under "I Want To" click on "Donate to YCSO".
