YCSO DEPUTY RESPONDS TO STOP A FIGHT INVOLVING AN AXE AND MACHETE

PRESCOTT ARIZONA (July 21, 2023) –On July 20, 2023, Yavapai County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) responded to a call regarding a fight involving an axe and knife machete that was taking place off I-40 at Crookton Road. Upon arrival, the deputy found four males at the scene and a truck blocking a vehicle that was lifted on a jack. The deputy proceeded to put them all on the ground at gunpoint to control the situation until more deputies arrived.

Shortly after, additional Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers and YCSO deputies arrived to assist in controlling the situation. Upon interviewing the subjects, the suspect, Jason Boyd (41) of Oregon, admitted to attempting to steal gas from the victim’s vehicle with a hi-lift jack.  When he was interrupted by the three men, including the owner of the vehicle, he began chasing them with the jack.  He eventually dropped the jack and grabbed an axe from his trailer to continue his pursuit of the three men.  He also struck and broke one of the vehicle’s windshields with the axe.

Jason Boyd was booked into the Prescott Detention Center with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, four counts of Endangerment, and a count of criminal damage.

YCSO initial responding Deputy is commended for his following policy, his training, and quick-thinking ability to de-escalate a potentially dangerous situation before anyone was seriously hurt or killed.
